How tips work

Clients can add a tip when paying via payment request.

When a client pays via a payment request link you send them, they'll see a tip option on the Stripe checkout page.

What clients see: - A dropdown labeled "Add a tip (optional)" - Options: 15%, 18%, 20%, 25%, or no tip - The client can choose a preset tip percentage or enter a custom tip amount at checkout.

Where tips go: - Tips are routed directly to your connected Stripe account — no BookBetter markup - The tip appears as a separate payment in your Stripe dashboard - Both the base payment and tip are recorded in your BookBetter payments history

Tips are only available on payment request links — not on deposits or upfront payments collected at booking time. This is because Stripe Checkout's tip field only works on one-time payment sessions.

Note: The tip is processed separately from the main payment. If you issue a refund on the booking, the tip is not automatically refunded — you'd need to refund it separately in your Stripe dashboard if needed.
